This playlist is BOPPIN. i know how gospel music can be sometimes (stale/not sonically adventurous/boring/etc), but let me tell ya what, this playlist is fun as h*ck - it has catchy rhythms, fast beats, interesting sounds, and just has great vocal performances (including the legendary Aretha Franklin)! you’ll hear lots of sample inspiration too - turns out a lot of hip hop producers love listening to gospel as well!

i’mma say it right now, Black people make much, much better gospel music compared to white people. without question!!

that’s it again for this week! i really want to bring this newsletter back to what it was, but i just don’t have the spoons to do so. hopefully that will change soon.

sometimes, we just need to take things one day at a time. that’s something that i remind myself everyday.

Today's ❇️ Album Showcase ❇️ show is dedicated to an album that I can heavily relate to in a multitude of ways right now: "Dopesmoker" by the band Sleep.

Dopesmoker is one of the best metal albums ever made, and is my personal favorite metal album. It is technically a one-hour long song (!), was done in a single take, & took four months of planning.

It is the true encapsulation of metal - it's dark, it's gloomy, it's trance-like, it just feels so heavy. Its length and magnitude makes it almost feel like ambient music. It is, without question, a masterpiece!

Join me as we talk about the significance of this fascinating album and why its creation is a unique milestone in metal history.

i hope this finds you healthy & well during the wild holiday season. it’s been a very busy time over here, so always thankful for your patience.

mentally, i’m doing a lot better! i’m being honest with myself in accepting my mental health and doing self-care for it.

self care = better nutrition & vitamin intake!!

i realized that i had some major vitamin deficiencies! woah! iron and zinc supplements really coming in clutch, and vitamin d (good for no sun winters up here in the PNW!) and vitamin b12! if you’re veggie/vegan, really recommend taking all of these, you’ll feel a lot better!!

i’ve also been taking magnesium L-threonate (this one!) and ashwagandha (this one!) during the day for anxiety/adhd stuff, and magnesium glycinate (this one!) at night for insomnia. BIG big difference in the most positive of ways! Better sleep and more relaxed. this is not medical advice (i’m not a doctor im just a dog woof woof), and i encourage you all to do some research (friends who know me know that im an incessant researcher, esp academic papers, i don’t like baloney quack stuff), and it’s very interesting. no affiliate stuff, i just wanted to share!!

today’s show (at 5pm pst!) will be an album appreciation hour for the new andre 3000 album “New Blue Sun!”

for those who don’t know: andre 3000 is a part of Outkast, one of the best hip hop groups of all time. he is considered one best rappers of all time in his own right. this debut album has been hyped about for a long, long time, with folks expecting it to be a follow-up to all of the amazing work he’s put out previously.

the end result? an abstract, ambient, experimental, jazzy, flute-centric record that no one saw coming. and I’ve been REALLY enjoying it!

i love when artists make these drastic left turn pivots. we all were expecting something else, and this album is far from what we ever imagined he would make. artists are supposed to be about pushing boundaries and dabbling in experimentation, and i think it is so cool that andre 3000 said “fuck it, i’mma do my own thing!” my respect for andre 3000 has only grown.

this album is for sure surprised everyone. it’s not everyone’s cup of tea. but if you’re down to experience a very, very chill one-hour mix of music, then you’re in for a treat. . so open a book, do some cooking, get cozy - it’s time to vibe!

gonna keep it short today. we had a dear family friend, Cheryl Maldonado, pass away two days ago, and I’m still processing my emotions. she was a truly caring, wonderful woman who was a huge inspiration to me for traveling and taking care of myself. i’ve known her since i was 5 - many, many hours were spent at her house growing up. she was the first one who gave me an inkling to consider traveling. all of these themed shows probably wouldn’t have happened if not for her influence.
